Fortunately this is not a universal truth, when European industry recovered from the late 1940s onwards much original work was done here in Europe. The 6AU6 is an RF pentode for use up to 50 MHz. The thin glass tube envelope is 18 mm in diameter and excluding the B7G base pins the valve is 53 mm tall. References: Datasheet & 1040. Type 6AU6 was first introduced in 1946. I have a sweep tube amplifier, currently it has 2 6JU6 tubes in it, with 800 volts DC on the plates, the 6JU6 tubes consume 3.2 amps of heater current. I was thinking of converting this to use 2 or 3 811 or 811a tubes, would it be reasonable to use a voltage doubler circuit to get 1600 volt from the 800 to get enogh voltage on the 811a plates ... Jun 06, 2002 · The application of sweep tubes in amateur radio linear amplifiers was clearly an engineering compromise dictated by economy. Today, the cost of four original 6LQ6 tubes exceeds the value of the linear amplifier, so old sweep tube linears (without tubes) are available at flea markets at incredibly cheap prices (or gutted for parts). Radio tubes are valves. In some "3 tube" or "6 tube" units it may be desirable to rewire sockets (three heaters in series across 120VAC instead of all in parallel across 6.3VAC) to use 40KG6 tubes; in many other units 6KG6 tubes are the best choice. 6JG6A: generally interchangable with 6JR6, 6JT6A, & 6KV6A.
